Barclays Bank Bonus Offers Explained for 2026: Who It Affects, Key Evidence, and What to Do Next

Barclays' £200 UK current-account switching bonus is not an open 2026 offer; Barclays says it closed on 27 August 2026. It now affects only qualifying customers awaiting payment, while other readers should compare Barclays accounts without expecting that cash incentive. The former promotion used the Current Account Switch Service, or CASS, to transfer an eligible customer's account and regular payments. A separate Barclaycard Avios Plus bonus remains advertised, but it is a credit-card offer with spending requirements and fees.

Who could qualify for the expired £200 offer?

The offer applied to new UK-resident customers aged 18 or older. They had to open a sole Barclays bank Account through the app between 9 June and 27 August 2026, according to Barclays' £200 switch-offer terms.

Opening an account after the deadline does not qualify. Starting an application during the offer period was also insufficient unless the customer completed every promotion requirement on time.

What did customers have to complete?

An eligible customer had to request a full CASS switch through the barclays app. The switch needed at least two active Direct Debits, and the customer had to pay £2,000 into the new account within 30 days of opening it.

Barclays excluded several groups: These restrictions mean an otherwise successful switch might not earn the reward. Paying in £2,000, for example, could not overcome an earlier Barclays switching-bonus payment or an ineligible account type.

  • Customers who already held a Barclays current account when the promotion began
  • Anyone who had previously received a Barclays switching bonus
  • Joint-account applicants
  • Applicants opening only a Basic Bank Account
  • Customers switching from another Barclays account

What if the £200 payment has not arrived?

Customers who met every condition during the qualifying period can still receive the £200. Barclays says it should arrive within 28 working days after eligibility is met, with "Switch Reward" shown on the account.

Before treating the payment as overdue, check: Keep account statements and switch confirmations until the reward appears. They can help establish whether each requirement was completed within the relevant period.

  • The account-opening and switch-completion dates
  • Whether the switch was full rather than partial
  • Whether two active Direct Debits moved with it
  • Whether £2,000 reached the account within its first 30 days
  • Whether 28 working days have passed since all conditions were satisfied

How was the Premier reward different?

Barclays also ran a Premier switching reward worth up to £600 in experiences rather than cash. Its conditions included a qualifying Premier account, a full app-based switch with two Direct Debits, and £4,000 paid in within 30 days. Customers also needed either £75,000 in gross annual income paid into the account or £100,000 in qualifying Barclays savings or investments.

Barclays warned that experience packages were subject to availability in its Premier switch-offer terms. That distinction matters when comparing headline values. An experience package advertised as worth up to £600 is not equivalent to £600 deposited into an account.

What should prospective switchers do now?

Judge the Barclays account on its ongoing features rather than the closed £200 incentive. CASS is free, normally completes a switch in seven working days, moves regular payments, and redirects payments mistakenly sent to the old account, according to Pay.UK's service guide. A separate bonus is currently advertised for new Barclaycard Avios Plus customers.

They can collect 25,000 Avios after spending £3,000 within three months, but this is borrowing rather than a current-account switch. Before applying, weigh the reward against the required spending and borrowing costs. The Barclaycard Avios Plus page lists a £20 monthly fee and a representative 80.1% variable APR.
