ACH and Bank Bonus Offers October 2026 Update: What Changed, Why It Matters, and What to Watch Next

October 2026 brought faster morning access to direct deposits and three checking bonuses up to $1,000 with October deadlines. ACH, the U.S. network for payroll deposits and bill payments, also faces an Oct.

What changed for ACH this fall?

Nacha's Phase 2 fraud rules took effect June 22, 2026. They require all non-consumer originators, third-party senders and service providers, and receiving banks to watch ACH credits. Volume no longer excuses a company or bank from monitoring. Nacha also removed the 5 p.m. receipt condition effective Sept. 18, 2026. Receiving banks must make all non-Same Day credits available by 9 a.m.

local time on settlement date, according to Nacha in the funds-availability rule. Employees and billers get faster, more predictable morning access. Nacha also clarified what counts as an International ACH Transaction effective Sept. 18, 2026. Diamond Bank's summary of Nacha changes notes an optional date-of-birth field follows Mar. 19, 2027. The change affects banks and businesses that send cross-border ACH.

Will your direct deposit land on time?

Morning availability helps workers who wait for payday funds. A regular ACH paycheck now shows by 9 a.m. local time on settlement date. Bill payments tied to that paycheck become easier to schedule. Columbus Day breaks that routine.

The Federal Reserve Board lists Columbus Day on Oct. 12, 2026 with no FedACH settlement in the Federal Reserve holidays schedule. Employers and billers with paydays on or just after that Monday should send payroll a business day early. Bonus chasers should plan around that gap. A late payroll can miss a monthly direct-deposit test. Ask your employer or biller for the submit date, not just the payday.

Which checking bonuses expire in October?

Three checking offers end in October with very different deposit tests. The right pick depends on how much direct deposit you can move. Compare deadlines and thresholds before you apply. Commerce Bank demands the heaviest monthly flow.

U.S. Bank fits smaller payrolls but restricts by market. Associated Bank adds a balance test on top of direct deposits. Match the offer to deposits you already receive. Do not split one paycheck across two bonus tests in the same month.

What should you watch into 2027?

Nacha members approved a higher Same Day ACH limit. The per-payment cap rises from $1 million to $10 million effective Sept. 17, 2027. Large corporate, tax and settlement payments are the main use to watch. Cross-border ACH gets a small data change next.

An optional date-of-birth field follows Mar. 19, 2027 after this year's IAT clarification. Banks and businesses that send International ACH should confirm their software handles it. Fraud screening now covers more senders. Small businesses that originate ACH credits should ask their bank what monitoring it expects. Large payers planning 2027 Same Day use should confirm bank readiness early.
